July 10 - Italian Wine Dinner – Evening in Sardinia

Italian Wine Dinner ~ An Evening in Sardinia … Petra Belliti and Tommy Smerik are leading the evening.

The dinner is on Wednesday, July 10 – RSVP today.

This is a special opportunity to see what is happening with wine and food in the Italian region of Sardinia. We are highlighting the grapes of Sardinia such at cannonau (granache), vermentino (so delicious during the Summer), and carignano.

And – the entire menu is being designed with recipes and dishes native to Sardinia. Exec Chef Denice Grande is working on the menu now – Sardinian selections to pair with the wines.

In my opinion – Sardinia is fast becoming the new cool area of Italy. I saw that happen with Sicily around 10 years ago – and now Sardinia is poised to capture the spotlight.

They also have “Blue Zone Wines” ~ Blue Zones are areas of the world where the people live exceptional long lives and Sardinia is high on that list.

Wine Dinner Details:

  • July 10, Wednesday.
  • 6:30pm Reception and 6:45pm Dinner.
  • $92 includes the 4-course pairing dinner by Exec Chef Denice Grande and select Sardinian wines.
  • Sardinia is designated one of the world’s few “Blue Zones” ~ these are regions of the world where people have exceptional long lives beyond 80.
  • Sardinia is fast becoming the new “cool area” of Italy for wine, cuisine, and travel.
  • Seating available both inside Solare and on our covered heated patio.

More Details:  Lasagna, one of the most celebrated of the Italian food staples, has a long and luxurious history. The term “lasagna” comes from the Greek word, “lasagnum,” meaning dish or bowl. The ancient Greeks used baking dishes of that name, which they eventually transferred to the Romans. The Romans, who ended up using the same style of dish, also developed a type of food which they used the term “lasagnum” for: it was served in said dish, with layers of a pasta-like food with other fillings in-between. With the extent of the Roman empire, this new “lasagnum” dish spread all across Europe, eventually reaching Britain, where it was published in the very first cookbook.

After many decades, the early form of lasagna once again surfaced. The early Italians changed the name from “lasagnum,” to “lasagna,” which is the current form. Over the years, the word “lasagna” began to change definitions; the word previously referred to the serving dish it was baked in, but began to simply mean the delicious pasta meal in the dish itself. In modern cooking terms, it now means layers of thin pasta, with meat, cheese, and tomato sauce squeezed in between. Lasagna sure has come a long way.
