November 13 - Silver Oak! The Legend ~ Wine Dinner @ Solare

Silver Oak is clearly a legend of California wine making. Everything started in 1972 when Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer teamed up to create their first vintage wine (Alexander Valley). Their strong initial focus was pure cabernet sauvignon and for the Silver Oak brand, that is all they continue to make. And it is famous across the world for its high quality and consistency. The Duncan family added the name, Twomey, to their portfolio to include the varietals of merlot, pinot noir, and sauvignon blanc. We will be tasting these wines during the dinner, of course.

This dinner is led personally by Quelene Slattery of the Silver Oak Team. $125/person for 5 select Silver Oak wines including their Napa Valley and Alexander Valley cabernet sauvignon bottlings. The 4-course tasting dinner is designed by Exec Chef Filippo Piccini. 6:45pm Dinner ~ 6:15pm Reception with Quelene.

In this hands-on cooking class in the Solare Kitchen, we focus on the meats of Tuscany. Executive Chef Filippo Piccini was born and raised in Tuscany, so this is a topic he knows very (very) well. You will learn the important approaches to cooking meat (beef, pork, and lamb) and also the techniques that Chef Filippo has learned during his career.   You will experience first-hand how to cook La Fiorentina (the Queen of Tuscan Meats), Tonno del Chianti, Agnello Scottadito, and more.   The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. Solare’s pasta is made fresh every day – in our kitchen. This is an opportunity to see exactly how Chef Filippo Piccini makes that happen! He will teach you all the right techniques to enable you to make the best “pasta fresca” and perfect ravioli. This is a hands-on pasta making class where you will learn the classic dough techniques and so much more. The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. October 23 - Wine Dinner: Simčič Marjan Family Estate ~ On the Border!

This is a fascinating Wine Dinner with delicious wines from a winery from a region you may not be that familiar with yet.   The fun short story is this winery, Simčič Marjan Family Estate, is less than a mile from the Italian border – less than 70 miles from Venice – in the town of Dobrovo, Slovenia.   These are Old World and New World grapes grown and vinified in the local style.   Only join this dinner if you like to explore wines with unique terroir and winemaking style – and you trust us here at Solare to provide great wine and food experiences.    The evening is led by Matteo Pastori, Brand Ambassador and Italian wine expert.  $82/person for 5 select Simčič Marjan wines and a 4-course tasting dinner designed by Exec Chef Filippo Piccini. 6:30pm.

A full immersion in gnocchi and slow braised Bolognese sauce — the essence of the Emilia-Romagna region. You will learn to twist the traditional recipe of gnocchi, by filling them with sausages, by creating different tastes, and shapes, so you can surprise your family and guest at home. The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. October 08 - Bolognese Shoot Out! Maria vs Doug ~ One Day Only

Join us for a fun … and DELICIOUS … Bolognese Shoot Out. A delightful competition of two styles of bolognese.

Here are the details:

First, Maria in the Solare Kitchen is the master of bolognese. She makes almost all the bolognese you have ever had at Solare. So so good.

Second, we have a amazing VIP customer and friend, Doug. He is a self taught chef – he is very active in the food scene in San Diego – associated closely with events like the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival – and so much more. And, he has a wonderful bolognese recipe and cooking style for which he is very proud.

Third, so – from 4:30pm to closing you can order the “Solare Bolognese Shoot Out” and you will have side-by-side dishes of bolognese with pappardelle – and you will taste them “blind” – and will let us know which you like better. The price for the side-by-side Pappardelle alla Bolognese is $20.

Fourth, we have a fun wine pairing available that can also select if you are interested.
