October 10 - David Fokos – Kenwood Wine “Artist Series” Release Party

Just Announced! We are delighted to report that the art of world-renown San Diego artist, David Fokos, was selected to be the art on the label of the prestigious Kenwood Winery Artist Series wine for their 2014 vintage. You can purchase tickets for the event David and Kenwood Winery here.   They are $38 – the event goes from 5:30pm to 7:30pm – and the details are below.

It is an Open House “mingling” event with appetizers and finger foods plus 5 delicious Kenwood wines including the just released “2014 Kenwood Artist Series” wine. Kenwood Winery is located in Sonoma, California, and they started the Artist Series program in 1975. Tickets are limited – See you on Wednesday, October 10, at Solare.

October 03 - An Evening in Tuscany with the legendary Banfi Winery

A special Italian Wine Dinner with the world famous Banfi Winery. A 4-course dinner with 5 Banfi wines from Tuscany … and the wine tasting portion of the dinner is led by Luciano Castiello. Luciano is the official ambassador for Castello Banfi, and unofficial ambassador for Italy’s melody-filled, wine-charmed, “slow food” culture. A wonderful wine+food experience. Banfi, for all practical purposes, put Brunello di Montalcino (go sangiovese!) on the map! $88/person for Chef Accursio’s 4-course dinner and 5 wines. 6:45pm Dinner and 6:15pm Reception.

September 29 - Cooking Class: Fish and Shellfish + Fish Market

Meet at Solare and drive together to a local fish market (less than 3 miles) to learn about fish and buying fresh fish with confidence. Then we all head back to Solare to prepare and cook some great seafood dishes. Chef Accursio was born on the coast of the island of Sicily, and he will teach you how to cook the following incredible dishes: Traditional Cioppino (fish stew), Crudo all’Italiana (sashimi Italian style!), and “Pesce alla Siciliana” (whole fish). Seafood lovers will not want to miss this opportunity. NOTE that for this class, the fun starts at 10am instead of the normal 10:30am as we are visiting the fish market. We meet at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. Solare is participating in San Diego Restaurant Week this year – #SDRW! $40++ dinner and $20 lunch. We are excited! We are offering the special menu we designed for Restaurant Week as well as our “regular” lunch and dinner menus. Note that during Restaurant week, the last lunch seating is 2:45pm and then dinner service begins at 4:30pm. We will be open for drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, etc., all afternoon. Resto Week!

September 15 - Cooking Class: Ossobuco and Risotto

For this class, you will be transported from San Diego to Lombardia, Italy, to learn how the perfect Ossobuco is made. The key to classic Ossobuco is exactly how the meat is braised, and that is one of many things you will learn from Chef Accursio. Lombardia is famous for their Ossobuco! And what does a wonderful plate of Ossobuco need? Risotto! Chef Accursio will also lead you to prepare the world’s best risotto where the rice is the perfect level of “creamy-ness” but the kernels are still whole and firm. This is great risotto – but it is not easy to make – unless you join this class! The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. Solare’s pasta is made fresh every day – in our kitchen. This is an opportunity to see exactly how Chef Accursio makes that happen! He will teach you all the right techniques to enable you to make the best “pasta fresca” and perfect ravioli.
