December 15 - Season’s Seasonings in Italy – Winter

Our good friend, Stefano Poggi of Batasiolo Winery in Piemonte, took the lead in organizing this great dinner. 3 restaurants, 4+ chefs, and amazing wines including Batasiolo 2007 Barolo DOCG Briccolina are going to collaborate to put on a culinary extravaganza. Featuring: Chefs Cassineri Mario and Francesca Penoncelli from Bice San Diego ~ Chef Accursio Lota from Solare Ristorante ~ and Chef Stefano Ceresoli from Piazza 1909. This is the first in a series of events celebrating the seasons like only true, authentic Italians can. Wine and dine to your heart’s content on real Italian expressions. The menu will be finalized soon, but just to whet your appetite- the welcome appetizer will be a whole suckling pig paired with the new (unofficial launch in California) The Independent Prosecco. The dinner is $89++ and please reserve directly with Bice where our dinner will be located: (619) 239-2423.

December 09 - Italian Truffle Dinner

We are in Italian Truffle Season! We do marvelous things with white and black Italian Truffles (Tartufo!) and we are excited to do it this night. We have an amazing source for freshly foraged Italian Truffles and we will be getting them flown in just in time for the dinner. These are fresh aromatic delicious never-to-be-forgotten Italian Black and White Truffles. Chef Accursio is designing a 5-course dinner and the price is $240/person. Yes, fresh Italian Truffles are expensive – but note that we do work to keep the dinner as reasonable as possible. The expensive part is the Truffles, of course, and we do not mark them up at all. We just divide our cost by the guests attending so you can enjoy this special delicacy without breaking the bank … too much! The dinner is limited in seating and starts at 6:45pm. Truffles! ~~ Contact us for tickets. ~~ View Menu Here

October 03 - Cooking Class: Ossobuco and Risotto

For this class, you will be transported form San Diego to Lombardia, Italy, to learn how the perfect Ossobuco is made. The key to classic Ossobuco is exactly how the meat is braised, and that is one of many things you will learn from Chef Accursio. Lombardia is famous for their Ossobuco! And what does a wonderful plate of Osso Buco need? Risotto! Chef Accursio will also lead you to prepare the world’s best risotto where the rice is the prefect level of “creamy-ness” but the kernels are still whole and firm. This is great risotto – but it is not easy to make – unless you join this class! The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. Italian wine is served for students interested in “cooking with wine”. – Limit 10 – $75/student that includes the class, wine, and lunch. Contact us for details.

September 20 - September 27 - San Diego Restaurant Week

Solare is participating in San Diego Restaurant Week this year. $40++ dinner and $20 lunch. We are excited! We are offering the special menu we designed for Restaurant Week as well as our “regular” lunch and dinner menus. And, note that during Restaurant week, the last lunch seating is 2:45pm and then dinner service begins at 4:30pm. We will be open for drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, etc., all afternoon. Resto Week!

September 13 - Emilio Nares Foundation – Harvest for Hope

The Emilio Nares Foundation is amazing – and Solare will be helping sponsor them again this year at their 12th Annual Harvest of Hope event. The ENF provides family support systems and information for families with children with cancer. Harvest of Hope is from 1pm to 4pm at the cool San Diego Central Library. Solare will be there with a special dish! Details on signing up can be found here. See you on the 13th!

September 12 - Cooking Class – Homemade Italian Desserts

Learn directly from Chef Accursio how to prepare the best (authentic!) Italian desserts. We focus on tiramisù, panna cotta, zeppole alla ricotta, and more. The fun starts at 10:30am at Solare with an Italian-style coffee of your choice and a pastry. Italian wine is served for students interested in “cooking with wine”. – Limit 10 — $75/student that includes the class, wine, and lunch. Contact us for details.
